EveryCutFileChoose vector or bitmap on purpose
Use SVG when you need scalable paths and separate vector elements. PNG, JPG, JPEG, and BMP are pixel images; xTool says an imported PNG is treated as a bitmap and offers engraving, rather than becoming a vector cut path.
Export from other design software to a supported format and preserve the editable master. Renaming an extension does not convert pixels into paths.
Prepare the SVG for XCS
XCS does not process live SVG text. Convert required text to paths in a copy and export plain SVG. Keep the live-text master because outlined letters are no longer editable as text.
Complexity depends on curve count, not only file size. Remove hidden objects and redundant points, or export only the needed elements, when a detailed SVG will not open or causes lag.
- Outline required text in a copy.
- Remove unnecessary geometry and export plain SVG.
- Import and confirm all expected vector elements.
Review the imported size
XCS can ask, auto-scale, or keep size when artwork exceeds the canvas. Select the imported design and compare its displayed dimensions with the intended dimensions before adding processing choices.
For example, if a label intended to be 76 mm by 42 mm arrives at another size, first check whether XCS auto-scaled it to the canvas. Restore or enter 76 mm width and confirm 42 mm height with proportions locked. Processing settings do not repair file scale.
If import fails or becomes slow, export one suspect group as plain SVG and add groups back until the curve-heavy element is identified. Confirm outlined text remains visible and check for geometry far from the main design. Record the XCS version with a repeatable problem, as xTool requests it for support diagnosis.
Keep SVG text outlined only in the interchange copy. If wording needs correction, edit the live-text master and export again. Also distinguish an image cropped to visible art bounds from a 76 mm by 42 mm SVG viewport that intentionally includes padding; XCS may show different selection sizes for those two files.
