A straight cylinder unwraps into a rectangle with width π times the diameter. A tapered straight-sided cup unwraps into an annular sector.
What the conical model leaves out
Rounded shoulders, bulging walls and handles are outside this model. The seam adds overlap at the larger rim. It does not compensate for material stretch.
