Open SVG designs with Silhouette Basic: the DXF route

Silhouette Studio Basic does not open SVG directly. Convert supported plain outlines to DXF, then check their size after import.

Convert a plain SVG

  1. Download your SVG to this device.
  2. Open the local SVG to DXF converter and select the file. Resolve any unsupported features it names.
  3. Download the DXF and open it in Silhouette Studio. Choose millimetres for the converter’s coordinates and compare the dimensions before cutting.

Silhouette Go is not a free SVG bypass

The current Silhouette instructions require Designer Edition or above for opening your own SVG in Go. Sign in with the account that holds that edition. Device in the Go library opens files saved on the phone or tablet.

What the conversion changes

DXF has no SVG fills or text. Our converter preserves supported outline positions and approximates curves with polylines; do not use it as a lossless colour-artwork conversion.
