Designer Edition, Designer Edition Plus, and Business Edition can open SVG. Silhouette lists SVG saving separately under Business Edition. Basic Edition's DXF route works best for plain line geometry, not fills, effects, or elaborate object structure.
Prepare and open the file
Keep an editable master and create an interchange copy. Outline required text, remove hidden objects, and simplify further for DXF. Open or merge the file in a new Studio document. If SVG is unavailable in Basic Edition, that is the edition boundary rather than proof of a corrupt file.

- Prepare SVG for a paid edition or simple DXF for Basic Edition.
- Open or merge it.
- Select all and compare dimensions.
Inspect before arranging
Look for missing curves, doubled segments, open shapes, and distant objects. If DXF loses important structure, simplify the source or choose the paid SVG route.
Check dimensions with aspect ratio locked. Diagnose SVG width, height, viewBox, and transforms instead of eyeballing a resize.
On Designer Edition or above, begin with File > Open for a standalone design or merge the SVG into an existing document. Select the complete imported group and enter the intended size with proportions locked. For a 76 mm by 42 mm label, entering 76 mm width should retain 42 mm height. If it does not, undo and check whether all paths were selected.
On Basic Edition, export a deliberately plain DXF from the source master. Outline necessary text, remove fills and effects that DXF will not preserve, and add a temporary reference rectangle with a known measurement. Open the DXF, compare the reference, inspect curves and joins, then delete the rectangle only after scale is confirmed.
When geometry is missing, isolate the affected group in a small export. Simplify compound paths or excessive nodes and retry. When geometry is present but grouped unexpectedly, reorganize it in Studio only after saving an untouched import receipt. That makes it possible to distinguish source conversion from later layout edits.
Save the Studio project under a new name after the import passes. If wording changes later, return to the live-text source master and generate a fresh outlined interchange copy. Editing individual outlined letters is slower and increases the chance of inconsistent spacing. The source, interchange file, and Studio project should each have a clear role.
If the document unit is centimeters or inches, convert before changing size: 76 mm by 42 mm is 7.6 cm by 4.2 cm, or about 2.99 inches by 1.65 inches. A unit-display change is not a scale error. Confirm the equivalent measurement first, then investigate viewBox or DXF export assumptions only if the physical values differ.
This is a documented software workflow, not an observed native import of a specific asset or a physical-cut promise.
